Volunteering for the Scituate Historical
Society
The Scituate Historical Society maintains nine of the
town’s most treasured historic sites through the hard work of dozens
of volunteers. Our dedicated Board of Trustees
and tireless officers are always looking for new volunteers to help us
improve and expand our program offerings, help preserve our buildings,
and continue to strive to achieve our mission goals. Whatever your interests,
you will find a welcoming niche in an organization that invites your
active involvement.
So what can you do to help? Here are a few ideas:
- Our Archivist is busy cataloguing and preserving
our large collection of artifacts and furnishings.
- Our Genealogist works to expand our resources in
this area, answering questions from around the United States on local
families and their histories.
- We are always in need of additional docents when
we open our historical sites to the public.
- Our Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum needs volunteers
to staff the exhibit areas and the gift shop, especially now as we expand
our hours of operation with greater demand for the site to be open.
- Our Kathleen Laidlaw historical Center, which houses
our research library, is staffed five days a week from 10am to 4pm, entirely
by volunteers.
- Our monthly newsletter is the center of our society
and publishes several outside submissions each month.
- We have several volunteers who are pursuing their
specific area of interest by helping us preserve our collections of
antique clothing, photographs, and paper memorabilia and other artifacts.
- During the past two years we have painted the
interior of the Cudworth House, the interior of the Old Oaken Bucket
House, and the exterior of the Grand Army Hall, all with the help of
volunteers.
